Pat Glass is the Labour Member of Parliament for North West Durham. She was elected at the 2010 general election on 6th May with a majority of 7612.

Pat was born in Esh Winning and has lived most of her life in County Durham. She has been a resident of Lanchester with her husband Bob for the last 22 years. Pat has two grown up children and recently became a grandmother for the first time to a beautiful baby girl named Ruth.

Pat has been a member of the Labour Party since she was 18.

Pat’s passion is education; she has spent her working life in the field. She has worked in senior positions in Local Education Authorities across the country.

Before being elected to Parliament, Pat was an adviser to the government on education and worked with councils across the Yorkshire and Humber region to improve their education service. Her specialist area of knowledge is Special Educational Needs.

Pat is one of only five Labour members on the Education Select Committee. She is also vice-chair of the All-Party Parliamentary Group for local democracy.

She is a member of the GMB union and a former Councillor on Lanchester Parish Council.

Pat’s main policy areas of interest are education, child poverty, the environment and the North East economy.

Pat’s interests outside of Parliament include reading, travelling France and spending time with her family.
